The November 3, 1949 Colorado Transcript reported that Patrolman Everett Hall had been shot in front of the Golden Theater. He was trying to break up a fight between his two brothers and three Mines students.
According to the sheriff the argument and blows between the men ensued when, in making a sharp turn into the theater, one of the students collided with Obie Hall. Officer Hall, who was on duty at the time, waded into the fracas to break it up.

During the struggle, Hall’s gun fell out of his holster, hit the sidewalk, and went off. The bullet hit him about 4 inches above his ankle and was ranging upward.
Officer Hall was rushed off for surgery. The five men involved in the fight were taken into custody. At a hearing held a week later, the Hall brothers were found guilty of disturbing the peace and the students were released. Each of the Halls were fined $10.
Officer Hall returned to work several weeks later. In 1967, he became Golden’s Police Chief. He retired in 1973, after serving the City for 28 years.
