As described in the June 30, 1976 Golden Transcript, the Golden Volunteer Fire Department was celebrating "top honors out of more than 50 teams entered in the Colorado State Fire Association Convention." The competitions tested fire fighting-related technical skills such as speedy hose coupling and fast ladder climbing.

In other news, City Council was working on an ordinance "prohibiting nudity, pornographic films and lewd or indecent displays in a licensed bar. The ordinance would also prohibit in such establishments a broad range of behavior including: loitering by habitual drunkards or intoxicated persons, profanity, rowdiness, undue noise, begging for drinks by employees of a bar and loitering by beggars."
