The July 20, 1961 Colorado Transcript announced that County Commissioner Joe B. Lewis had purchased the old county courthouse, Sheriff’s residence, and jail. The price was not disclosed in the article.

Lewis said he is not certain at this time what will be done with the courthouse and adjoining house, used as a jail and sheriff’s quarters before the new jail was completed three years ago. Lewis said he may convert the buildings into apartments if remodeling is not too costly.

Two years later, Lewis had the buildings demolished. The property was later occupied by a fast food place and a liquor store and is now the site of an office building.
