The June 19, 1930 Colorado Transcript announced that the Public Service Company of Colorado planned to bring natural gas to Golden, provided it could solicit enough subscribers. Coors Porcelain and the Golden Fire Brick Company had already contracted for gas service. Public Service thought it improbable that they would service the north side of town but expected to find enough subscribers to bring gas to the business district and all residences on the south side of the Creek.
The company found enough subscribers to ask City Council for a franchise by mid-July, and after that, the Transcript followed the installation process with interest throughout the summer.

A scan through the newspapers of the next few years shows that natural gas was good for the Transcript. The Colorado Central Power Company had always been a good advertiser. Now Public Service also had appliances to sell.
