6-8:30PM Community Sustainability Advisory Board Meeting @ City Hall Council Chambers

Tonight, the Sustainability Board will discuss:

  • A water efficiency plan and water conservation efforts (see pp. 10-12 of the meeting packet)
  • The Coors wastewater treatment plant renovation
  • Potential new policies to "address" electrification of existing homes and businesses in Golden
  • A pilot program for commercial energy benchmarking (see pp. 3 and 6 of the meeting packet)
  • Battery storage-readiness. The City's building code will not yet require all-electric construction, but it will require elements that will make eventual conversion easier. As an example, new construction must include a space for future whole-house battery installation. They must also include conduit from the electrical panel to the future battery location. The panel must have reserved capacity for hooking up a battery system. They estimate the cost to install a 10kWh battery in an existing house at $9-15K. See pp. 13-38, which detail these and other issues, including tariff considerations, equipment availability, and safety hazards associated with having big batteries in buildings.
