The MTAB Board will discuss safety concerns on Highway 93. This was rescheduled from the May meeting. At that time, they mentioned a recent fatality on 93. Golden has residential neighborhoods with egress directly onto 93, and it's not uncommon for bicyclists and pedestrians to need to cross the Highway. This was a long-time concern for the Beverly Heights neighborhood, which has been made considerably less hazardous by lowering the highway and putting a maze-like "lid" over it for local traffic. There are several other spots that would benefit from similar safety improvements, but Golden does not control Highway 93—the State does. MTAB will discuss what they would like to do and how they might persuade the State to do it.
The Board plans to take a bike tour—possibly using e-bikes—to explore several spots that might need traffic improvements. They will discuss doing that tour in place of their July meeting.
Staff will provide updates on several current projects, including Arapahoe Street downtown, Highway 93, and West Colfax.
