The Sustainability Board will discuss proposed changes to the City's building codes to require greater energy efficiency. Rather than requiring all-electric houses, they will recommend that Council enact an "electric-preferred" code. This will encourage the use of heat pumps and various energy-efficient features for windows, etc. It will not require initial installation of batteries to store solar-generated power, but it will require that the infrastructure be built in (a shelf for the batteries, a conduit for electrical cables, etc.).

The Sustainability Board will meet with the Planning Commission tomorrow at 1PM at City Hall to discuss these proposed changes to the building code.

Staff will discuss the Board's progress on various 2024 work plan items, including the goal of electrifying the City's fleet of vehicles and encouraging resident ownership of electric vehicles by installing more public charging stations.
