The September 8, 1921 Colorado Transcript included a brief paragraph announcing that a home on North Golden Road had burned.
Do you know where “North Golden Road” is?
I’m sure you’re familiar with South Golden Road, which goes past King Soopers and through Pleasant View. South Golden Road got its name because it’s the southernmost of three roads that early Denverites followed to get to Golden.
Look on old maps, and you’ll see that 10th Street (which turns into 44th when it leaves Golden) used to be called North Golden Road. Present-day 13th Street (which becomes 32nd when it leaves the city) used to be called Middle Golden Road. Those names have dropped out of usage, but for some reason we’re left with South Golden Road.
