As plans move forward for the Clayworks mixed-use district on the former CoorsTek industrial site in downtown Golden, AC Development is seeking a qualified individual or organization to relocate and preserve the historic home at 612 10th St., built in 1869.

The company is offering the structure, which sits within the redevelopment site on the north side of 10th Street between Jackson Street and Ford Street, at no cost to a party that can move it and secure a suitable site for future use. AC Development said the effort is intended to preserve a piece of Golden’s history while allowing the Clayworks project to move forward.

Built in 1869 by businessmen Hubert Derclaye and Victor Reiner, the structure was originally designed as a duplex before being converted to a single-family residence in 1878, according to a 2018 architectural survey. The home later became associated with Joseph G. Schall, a downtown Golden bookseller, and was designated a local landmark by the Golden City Council in 2005.

The Clayworks master plan calls for a mix of office, residential, hotel, retail and restaurant use organized around public plazas and pedestrian-oriented streets, along with expanded open space and adaptive reuse of historic structures. AC Development said preservation of other historic elements, including the former Golden High School building, remains part of the Clayworks master plan.

Interested parties should be prepared to identify a relocation site, coordinate engineering and permitting work and assume responsibility for moving and rehabilitation costs. Selected recipients will work with AC Development to review structural conditions, timing and transfer requirements.
