Increasing the Size of the GURA Board

Under the terms of a new state law, urban renewal authorities are required to get approvals from all affected taxing authorities before creating a new tax increment sharing agreement. Since GURA is about to create two new urban renewal areas, they are expanding the board to include representatives from three of the taxing entities. In addition, the board is being expanded to include three additional Golden residents.

Apply to Join the GURA Board

Applications are now open for the three new Golden resident positions. Please consider applying—especially if you live in or near one of the urban renewal areas. In recent years, decisions about GURA neighborhoods—particularly the Central Neighborhood—have been made by people entirely unaffected by the changes.

Tonight's Topics:

The board will review the tax increment revenue sharing agreements with the following:

a. Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners (Reso 172)
b. Jefferson County Public School Board (Reso 173)
c. Jefferson County Public Library Board (Reso 174)
d. Mile High Flood District (Reso 175)
e. City of Golden (City Council) (Reso 176)

They will also review the 2026 budget, new potential plan areas, an update on "grid resiliency" (tolerance for power outages), possible $70K replacement of the fence around the Golden Community Garden, various infrastructure and development projects, and pending land use cases in urban renewal areas. Golden History: Busy Week for the Fire Department

Stewart's store building would now be an unsightly wreck of crumbling brick walls and distorted corrugated iron flapping in the wind, a skeleton on a prominent corner of Washington avenue, were it not for the quick and prompt action of Golden's Volunteer Fire department Thursday morning at 5 o'clock.
Colorado Transcript
- July 13, 1939

Golden's night watchman had gone past the store 5 minutes previously without noticing smoke, so the fire, of unknown origins, came up quickly. The Volunteer Fire Department responded quickly and doused the fire. Damages to the store amounted to about $650. A laundry had recently moved into the center part of the building. Their equipment incurred about $25 in damage, and they also lost "a considerable amount of unwashed laundry which had just been received at the plant was destroyed."

The Fire Department was also called to the Golden Waffle Inn that week to extinguish a brush fire. The Waffle Inn was located across the road from the Rock Rest Lodge.

On the same afternoon, the fire department boys responded to a call at the Steve Rogers farm place just east of Golden on 44th avenue, when a hay stack and a part of their cow barns were burned..... Residents are urged to use every caution with matches, cigarettes, camp fires, and when burning weeds, due to the unusual and continued dry spell.
