Golden History: Rising Methodism

This photo of the Methodist-Church-To-Be appeared in the June 29, 1961 Colorado Transcript. The Methodists at that time were still meeting at 14th and Washington, a site they had occupied since the 1860s. They had been wanting to build a bigger church with dedicated parking for some time when the Holland House Hotel, next door, offered to buy their property.

The Methodists acquired the land on 15th Street (between Ford and Jackson) from the City and broke ground in May of 1961. The new church was consecrated in February of 1962.
