10AM-5PM 36th Annual Golden Fine Arts Festival @ Parfet Park
A Golden icon for more than three decades, Golden Fine Arts Festival is a prestigious juried art show located in the heart of historic downtown Golden, Colorado.
With its prime location just 20 minutes west of Metro Denver and free admission to the public, this premier event traditionally draws over 30,000 visitors (pre-COVID) over 2 days to enjoy art, live entertainment, beer and wine gardens and food vendors.
The event, rich in community tradition and a well-established reputation, is limited to 100 artist booth spaces. Artists are selected through a competitive jury process selected by art professionals. Traditionally, over half of participating Artists travel to Golden from outside of the state of Colorado. Colorado is also home to many talented Artists who participate at the event each year. Cash prizes are awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in nine categories, as well as Best of Show and Best of Colorado honors.
Produced by the Golden Chamber of Commerce, Golden Fine Arts Festival is a favorite of those who value an attentive and welcoming ‘home hospitality’ of Golden, Colorado for artists and patrons alike. More information.

9:30AM-12PM Walk with a Geologist at Triceratops Trail
Walk with a Geologist at Triceratops Trail is a 2-hour guided walking tour of Triceratops Trail in Golden, Colorado. The 1.5-mile, gravel hiking trail winds between vertical walls of sandstone into reclaimed clay pits. A professional or knowledgeable amateur geologist leads the tour and highlights the many viewable dinosaur tracks, fossils, and impressions. Participants meet in the parking lot located one block east of 6th Avenue and 19th Street in Golden, to begin the walk. This tour is designed for participants ages 16 and older. Register

In this watercolor class, participants will capture what is seen – the scene, the object, or the person in an understandable way. Participants will learn about composition and color, values and abstract shapes, and how to tie all the elements together to create a unique painting. No more will the festive rubberneck automobile be heard chugging and groaning through the streets of Golden, as a deal has been made with the Tramway company whereby the sightseeing trade will be diverted to the “Seeing the Foothills” electric cars.
Colorado Transcript – August 15, 1912
“Rubberneck automobiles” were large touring cars used to conduct sightseeing tours. Many of them drove through Golden.
“Seeing Denver” was a tour-guiding company based in the Brown Palace in Denver. They used chartered streetcars to provide guided tours of Denver. “Seeing the Foothills” was another service they offered, using chartered interurban streetcars to bring tourists to foothills towns, including Golden, Leyden, and sometimes Morrison.
One of their offerings was called the “Wishbone” Route. That would go from Denver to the coal-mining town of Leyden (map), giving passengers a view of the Ralston Creek valley. The streetcar would then backtrack to Arvada and follow the Clear Creek valley into Golden.
Both routes traversed many miles of farmland, culminating in beautiful views of the foothills at both Leyden and Golden. The 3-hour round trip cost $1. Golden preferred having sightseers arrive by streetcar rather than automobile: they were more likely to stop and spend time in Golden, patronizing the stores and restaurants.
