Celebrate America's 250th Birthday with the Quilt Museum

Tomorrow (July 6th, 9:30-3:30), the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum will host a Patriotic Project SEW Day.

Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary can be a lot of fun and for Quilters is a perfect reason to make a Commemorative project. If you have fabric or panels and are looking for ideas – this is a day to share ideas and allow RMQM to help you start your project. We have volunteers and staff ready to help you move forward – especially with things like panels that can be a bit of a challenge to work with. We have gathered some helpful books from the library and from the shop, to create a group of resources. More information and to register

Also worth noting: the Museum is still celebrating Independence Day with a sale in the gift shop. All red, white, or blue merchandise is on sale, 25% off. That means savings on fabric, notions, books, gifts, and more. If it's red or white or blue, it's on sale! Some exclusions may apply.

Location:

Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum

Golden History: Treasonable Utterances

Many American citizens objected to our involvement in World War I. They regarded it as a European dispute and saw no reason for us to be drawn into the fray. The federal government was determined to quell anti-war talk, so they enacted the Espionage Act of 1917, followed by the Sedition Act of 1918.

The July 5, 1917 Colorado Transcript reported that Nick Druckes of Golden had been arrested by soldiers for making “treasonable utterances.” He was fortunate: after a night in jail, he was taken before the Adjutant General, given a “severe lecture” and set free.

The Transcript commented “Druckes probably meant no harm and did not realize the gravity of his offense, but his arrest will probably serve as a warning to certain others who have been inclined to make unpatriotic remarks.”
