5PM City Council Study Session and Business Meeting @ City Hall

5PM Study Session

  • Ore Cart
    Staff will present a plan to extend the Ore Cart shuttle bus service. The current agreement with the School of Mines will end in June of 2027. The City covers 35% of the cost of operating the shuttle service. Staff believes that the shuttles will become more useful when the planned Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program rolls out. The TDM will allow new developments to provide fewer parking spaces. Learn more.
  • Burying Power Lines
    The City has a fund to bury power lines. Policies are in place that guide where that fund is used. The Public Works Director will review the current policies and recommend that new policies be put in place. Learn more.

Public Comment

The meeting begins with public comment. If you want to address Council, you will have three minutes to speak. Any public comments received by email before 3PM will be posted in the meeting packet after 3 (so check back then!).

Third Party Investigation

Councilors Knecht and Pfau were charged with hiring a third party to evaluate "the incident" that led to a firefighter, the Fire Chief, and the City Manager being dismissed. The two councilors will provide a status report.

3rd Quarter Report on Progress Toward the Strategic Plan

Council sets a Strategic Plan each year. Tonight, the City's Management Analyst will report on progress toward the plan's goals (new City Hall, affordable housing, homeless services, trail improvements, etc.) Learn more.

Items on the Consent Agenda are considered non-controversial, not needing discussion. All items in this section will be approved with a single vote. Any councilor wishing to discuss a consent issue can request that it be removed from the consent agenda and discussed and voted on separately. These are the items on tonight's Consent Agenda:

  • Approving a $123K contract to patch Prospector Alley between 14th and 15th (learn more)
  • Approving an Intergovernmental Agreement IGA) with several other government entities regarding the Clear Creek Trail (learn more)
  • Providing $1.380,164 in affording housing funding to Foothills Regional Housing Authority, with the understanding that they will use it in the new housing project that the state is planning for land near the Lookout Mountain Youth Facility (learn more)

5:30-7PM Contemplative Memoir @ FAC Astor House

Writing a memoir may be the most challenging and consequential writing we will ever do. We think we know ourselves well enough to write about our lives, but the effort seems daunting, and its value dubious. After all, how do we begin to choose which stories to tell from all the days and years? And who cares? First of all, no life is ordinary. No life is without miracles and magic, great loss and great love. And probably no life is more crucial for our children to understand then ours, because they share more than our genetics, they share our spiritual DNA. What made us who we are, helps them see who they can become. In that sense, we leave them with more than stories. We leave them with meaning and hope.  Register.

Golden Fire-Rescue

Golden Fire-Rescue Local 5080 does a great job of describing their fire and rescue incidents. They have agreed to let GoldenToday share their reports. You will definitely find them interesting. This is the first of what will be an ongoing series.

Friday evening (9/4/26)
Rescue 21, Battalion Chief 21, Truck 24 and Truck 24 were dispatched to a report of a back country rescue on North Table. Crews responded to a report of a single person that was unable to ascend their rope or descent their rope and was stuck while climbing. Mutual aid was requested from Arvada Fire. Truck 52, Medic 52, Engine 55 and Battalion 53 responded to assist. The subject was lowered to the ground and assessed for injuries by Paramedics. No injuries were reported and the subject was brought back to their vehicle.

105 Years Ago
The September 8, 1921 Colorado Transcript included a brief paragraph announcing that a home on North Golden Road had burned.

Do you know where “North Golden Road” is?

I’m sure you’re familiar with South Golden Road, which goes past King Soopers and through Pleasant View. South Golden Road got its name because it’s the southernmost of three roads that early Denverites followed to get to Golden. 

Look on old maps, and you’ll see that 10th Street (which turns into 44th when it leaves Golden) used to be called North Golden Road.  Present-day 13th Street (which becomes 32nd when it leaves the city) used to be called Middle Golden Road.  Those names have dropped out of usage, but for some reason we’re left with South Golden Road.
