5:30PM Planning Commission Meeting @ City Hall

The City plans to hire consultants to write a Housing Action Plan. The document will be used to show

...historic housing barriers in Golden, particularly barriers faced by black, indigenous, and people of color, and recommendations to address the lingering impacts of race-based covenants, exclusionary zoning, redlining, etc.

The barriers need not be specific to Golden: it's enough to demonstrate that such barriers existed on a national level.

The Planning Commission is asked to review the scope of work for the contract. Learn more.

Golden History: Summer Fun

The July 1, 1915 Colorado Transcript shows Golden society enjoying the warm summer days and nights.

Members of the National Editorial association stopped in Golden on their way to a convention in Los Angeles. Golden’s movers and shakers were excited at the exposure and the great, nationwide press they anticipated receiving.

The newspaper men arrived in Denver in a special train of two sections, and were taken directly from the Union depot to Tramway cars and brought to Golden. From here they were taken in automobiles over the Williams highway to the summit of Lookout mountain. The transportation companies were taxed to the Limit in getting the crowds to the top of the mountain, but everything went like clockwork, and every one of the party made the wonderful trip.

and in other news…

Mrs. H. M. Rubey was hostess at an enjoyable picnic party on Castle Rock last Thursday evening, her guests being Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Allen.

and yet more gaiety…

A jolly crowd of young people spent Monday evening at the Wagenbach pavilion on Lookout mountain. The trip was made via the funicular, and supper was served by the ladies and then dancing was indulged in until a late hour.

STAGE 1 FIRE RESTRICTION IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY JUNE 30TH, 2026, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

City of Golden

Per the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, all unincorporated areas of Jefferson County have entered a Stage 1 Fire Restriction, until further notice. This Stage 1 Fire Restriction is due to ongoing very high fire danger, high maximum temperatures, and low relative humidity values. There are also several large wildfires currently burning within Colorado; this has stretched regional wildland fire resource availability, especially related to aerial firefighting resources...
