50 Year Flashback, Climate Change, and Things to Do

The Golden Transcripts from January, 1970 (50 years ago this month) told of much growth and some destruction. The City was widening the Washington Avenue bridge and eliminating diagonal parking to allow more room for traffic. We were building a new library at 923 10th St (which is now the Golden History Museum). The brick Catholic church at 14th and Ford Street had been sold to Coors and was slated for demolition. Construction had begun on Golden Terrace Mobile Home Park, which would accommodate 264 mobile homes.

12PM Some of Golden’s grande dames will be occupying the front steps of City Hall (map) today at noon: Please join Grandmas on Strike in a small effort to bring more attention to the climate crisis. For decades, fossil fuel companies took a page from Big Tobacco and tried to hide the truth, demonstrating a callous disregard for human wellbeing. But around the world, people are banding together to say ENOUGH. It’s time we take back our government, our energy system and our future from these corporations whose decisions and deceit disproportionately contributed to today’s climate crisis.
