The annual VegFest is taking place this weekend at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.  VegFest Colorado Is a two-day health and environmental fair supporting a vegan lifestyle. This event features renowned speakers who speak on health, diet, compassion, and environmental issues. VegFest Colorado also features expert chefs who demonstrate how to prepare delicious healthful plant-based/vegan dishes. Additional activities include food sampling, restaurants, commercial & non-profit vendors, fun for the kids and more. Our primary purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of a plant-based lifestyle and to help build a supportive vegan community. Parking is FREE. Tickets and more information.

…and of course, our Farmers Market is operating this morning from 8-1.  You’ll find plenty of fresh fruits and veggies there.

There are two bike rides coming through Golden this weekend.  Today’s Century Ride will not require road closures, but you may encounter a bunch of cyclists on the streets of town between 7:15 and 9:30AM, and again between 10:30AM and 12:30PM.  Tomorrow’s Golden Gran Fondo will close Washington Avenue for a short time around 8AM.  The cyclists will gather at Parfet Park (10th & Washington) at the end of their ride, about 2:30-4:30 in the afternoon.  See the City’s article for all of the details.

The Golden City Brewery is celebrating the solstice today with their annual Summer Solstice charity event.  This year’s beneficiary is the Chaurikharka School in Nepal.  As you may know the Golden City Brewery has partnered with the Sherpa House to build a brewery in Nepal, and through that connection, has established ties and friendships in that country.  They are raising funds to help the residents recover from two recent earthquakes.  Today’s offers free admission, but for a $10 donation you’ll receive a special glass and a beer or soda.  The Golden Transcript published a nice article about this fund-raiser, along with two more being hosted by the Sherpa House:  Goldenites to help rebuild Nepalese school.
