I always enjoy looking at the World War II-era advertisements in the Transcript. From food rationing to Victory Gardens, the war affected every aspect of daily life. The gas company reminded customers that natural gas was used in production of "tanks, ships, guns, bombs and ammunition." The telephone company likened its operators to fighter pilots, both dedicated to duty. The Chevy dealer, which had no new cars to sell, reminded people that proper maintenance would help beat the axis powers.

The Colorado Central Power Company was particularly pugnacious in their references to America's enemies. In this ad, they're crowing about America's superior power supplies. In another memorable ad, they speculated that Hitler would be electrocuted at the end of the war, because electricity is so cost-effective!
