Past Golden Beer Talks Speakers

6-7:45PM Golden Beer Talks – Carla Zinanti @ Buffalo Rose
Golden Beer Talks is back! This is our home-grown version of TED Talks, featuring local people doing interesting things. Why “Beer Talks?” We always have beer available from one of our local breweries. The Buffalo Rose will have a limited dinner menu available, and the full bar is open. There is no cover charge, and no obligation to eat or drink anything. Beer Talks started in 2013 and ran until Covid shut it down in 2020. Check out podcasts of Past Talks!

Tonight’s speaker is Carla Zinanti – Manager of Animal Control for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Essentially the entire Front Range of Colorado has been identified as a high-risk zone for wildfires, and certainly the recent Marshall Fire underscores the danger that this area is subject to.

Carla and her Animal Control Unit are in charge of animal evacuations for wildfires, floods, and other events. Carla will briefly describe the massive and complicated structure for emergency evacuations and notices, and delve into details on the efforts and heavy volunteer involvement in evacuating and temporarily housing pets and large animals including livestock when disaster threatens their homes.

How This Works
The Buffalo Rose will open at 6:00 p.m. Food and drink service will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the program will begin around 6:30 p.m. Following the presentation, we’ll take a brief intermission for Q + A. We’ll wrap up around 7:45 p.m., but people interested in staying a bit longer to socialize will be able to do so. There is no cover charge and no purchase is necessary.

Golden History Moment

The January 17, 1963 Colorado Transcript reported that Adolph Coors Co. had purchased the Ford Street car dealership property. The dealership had recently been sold by Steve Frederick to Chuck Stevenson. Coors planned to lease the property back to Stevenson until they needed it–possibly for 10 years. That property is now part of their loading area.

Two years later (in 1965), Coors bought the next block south, which contained the lumberyard and the Catholic church. Those buildings remained there until 1973. At that time, the lumberyard moved to Colfax and the Catholic church moved to their new location between Bell Middle School and the Golden Cemetery. That block became the Coors visitors parking lot.

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
