LEADERSHIP GOLDEN

The Leadership Golden program is a series of seminars spanning a nine month period. These seminars facilitate opportunities for participants to increase their knowledge of the relationships between government, education, business, and the community of Golden. Participants have the opportunity to explore options and methods of problem solving with city staff and community leaders in the fields of education, arts, recreation, public finance, city and county government, justice, community responsibility and economic development.

This is a great program for people who want to learn more about how the City of Golden works. I took the class, then served two years on the steering committee and three years on the board. If you would like to be more involved in the Golden community, this is a great place to learn your options.

They are accepting applications for the 2023/2024 class until July 31, 2023. Learn more and apply here.

GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT

Temporary parking lots on the corners at 13th and Jackson (left) and 12th and Jackson (right) – Google Street Images, 2012

We used to have a parking lot on Jackson Street which covered half a block, from 12th all the way to 13th Street. When GURA was revitalizing downtown, one of their goals was to develop that property. They began by building the parking garage in the middle of the block. This left smaller lots on the two end spaces–one on 12th Street and one on 13th. These were always intended to be temporary, while GURA sought out developers for the two remaining lots.

By July of 2016, a building was under construction at 12th and Jackson. That building now houses the Tributary Food Hall and Facialaesthetics. My friend Dave Powers captured some interesting views of the work-in-progress.
