GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT

Golden Colorado in 1868 with snow on the ground. The Astor House and Loveland building are both visible, as are the buildings in the 1100 block (east) of Washington Avenue. An inset of another old photo shows a closer view of the store buildings.

The Denver Public Library estimates the date of this photo as 1868. In it, you can see the Astor House (1867) and the Loveland Building (1866). In the distance–on the right side–are large store buildings, recognizable from other early photos of downtown.

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
