6PM RTD will host a public meeting tonight in City Council Chambers to discuss proposed service cuts. Faced with significant budget shortfalls, they are proposing cut all over the metro area. In Golden, they propose to discontinue the 16L bus, which is the express bus to Denver. We would still have the 16 local bus, which is, of course, much slower. This turn of events is frustrating for Golden, because they have been trying to make us less car-centric. Public transportation is so-so now, and will be even less appealing if they eliminate the 16L option. Learn more….
6PM Tonight’s Golden High School PTA Chili Supper offers all-you-can-eat chili or mac-n-cheese and dessert for only $10. Be sure to bid in the silent auction. Last year’s supper raised $7,000 in grants to classrooms, student clubs, and organizations as well as five $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors.

Golden History Moment:
A few days ago, inspired by tonight’s Golden High School PTA Chili Supper, I wrote a brief history of Golden High School. I thought you might enjoy seeing this photo of the 1956 High School when it was new. Notice that the current high school buildings are set back in the lot compared to the 1956 building. That’s how they were able to build the 2008 rendition of the School while holding classes in the 1956 buildings: the new School was built behind the old School. The old buildings were replaced by a much-needed parking lot. Look how much less-developed the neighborhood was–and how much less tree-filled!
