GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENTS

Here’s a quick run-down on Golden History events on various June 23rd(s):

1880 – a train fell through a railroad bridge over Clear Creek at East Street

1886 – The Transcript advised that, instead of grumbling about the depressed state of agriculture, Golden people should rejoice over our thriving industries (coal and clay mines, ceramics plants, paper and flour mills, and the brewery

1910 – The Tramway company, which owned one of Golden’s communter railways (the northern route) acquired the other line as well.

1921 – The boys from the Industrial School performed HMS Pinafore for a group of Civil War veterans who were visiting town for a reunion. Young James Marino was particularly good as “Poor Little Buttercup.” The other boys playing girls’ roles were praised for being very ladylike.

1927 – The county courthouse marked its 50 year anniversary. The Transcript reprinted an account of the celebration that took place in 1877.

1976 – The Transcript praised the homey atmosphere of the Golden Motel.

1981 – A Coors employee who was hiking under Castle Rock narrowly escaped a rockfall that brought down several tons of rock.

Now–getting back to yesterday’s historic rainfall–here are more flood photos.
