Free Health Screenings and Gardening Tips, Raptors, and Trains

The 9HealthFair is visiting Golden today.  This is a great way to get a number of screenings done free or at very minimal cost.  They will be at Panorama Orthopedic (map) from 7AM till noon.

The Denver Rose Society will be on hand at the Jefferson County Detention Center rose garden (map) from 9:30-noon, conducting their annual rose pruning workshop.  The workshop is free, and all are welcome.

The Golden Community Garden is offering a “Basic Organic Gardening” class at 12:30PM.  The class will take place at the pavilion at the community garden. You can reach the garden from the west end of either 8th or 10th streets in Golden. There’s a fence around the entire site, but pedestrian gates are at both the 8th & 10th street entrances. (map)

Jefferson County Open Space will have an Education Station at North Table Mountain Park (map) this morning from 9-12.  Learn more about our local raptors and what you can do to protect them. You will find the naturalist near the kiosk in the main parking lot. Just look for the Education Station sign. Bring your interest, enthusiasm, and willingness to share your experience and knowledge.

The Railroad Museum has a special program today (10-4).  Even in the early 1900s, Coloradoans wanted to escape to the mountains, so they took Wildflower Excursions on the Colorado Midland Railway or the Switzerland Trail.  Learn more about these early “staycations” and catch a ride behind a steam or diesel locomotive or on the uniquely Colorado Galloping Goose.
