In the years after World War II, Golden was in a home-building frenzy. Many of the earliest post-war homes were built specifically for veterans, using VA financing.
Charles Martin began building veteran homes in 1946, first at 22nd and East, then at 24th and Ford. By 1947 he was building at 21st and East and 23rd and Ford. In 1947 he began work on Vernon Drive between 20th and 23rd.

Orville Dennis also built many homes in Golden for the veteran market. He began in 1949, with the first batch being on 2nd Street between Washington and Ford. The homes were 24×24 feet, with two bedrooms and one bath. They sold for $6700. In 1950, Dennis built an additional twelve houses on North Ford near the Foss Ranch. Those homes sold for $8500. He then moved on to Goldco Circle (the former Cemetery Hill), with those houses ranging from $7000 to $8500.
