Lots to Do on a Beautiful Fall Weekend

We are so lucky to have the Rooney Road Recycling Center here in Golden.  They’re the only household hazardous waste facility in Jefferson County.  They collect paint, motor oil, cleaners, pesticides, and more, and the best part is that 99% of what they collect is recycled into something else–it does not wind up in a landfill.  There are small fees for accepting the waste, but thanks to the 3RC Foundation, more than 75% of the drop-off fees are subsidized.

They’re having an open house today from noon till 3.  Stop by and take a tour.  They’ll be serving hot dogs and drinks and giving out door prizes.  (Educational and you get a free lunch!)  Rooney Road Recycling Center, 151 South Rooney Road, Golden, CO (map)

Today is the second-to-last Farmers Market of the year, and it’s going to be a gorgeous day, so you’d better go while you can!  This is the last weekend for Thomas the Tank Engine at the Railroad Museum.  Some of the time slots are sold out, but many slots still have a few tickets available.

Tomorrow morning is the Golden Gallop in downtown Golden.  If you’re in the mood for a spur-of-the-moment race, you can still register today at Runners High (103 Rubey Drive) from 10-5, or tomorrow morning at Parfet Park from 6:30-7:30.  If you’re not running, just come down to watch!

The 10K will start at 8AM, under the arch.  The 5K will start at 8:15 in front the Table Mountain Inn.  Each race will be led off by a galloping horse (a genuine American Mustang!).  The awards for those two races will be given at 10AM in Parfet Park.

The Kids Fun Run will start at 10:30, on the south end of the Washington Avenue bridge.  The kids will run along the creekside trail from Washington Avenue to the Billy Drew pedestrian bridge (at Illinois St.) and back to Washington Avenue.
