We have a bit of a hiatus right now, with holiday events over and City meetings not yet starting for the year. As a result, you get another dose of Golden history today. I collect old postcards of Golden and use them as one of my tools for researching Golden history. Before color film was available, manufacturers used to “colorize” postcards by painting them.

This postcard shows Golden in about 1900. Click to enlarge.
Strangely, the artists who colorized the images often left large swaths unpainted. Note the mountains left in black & white. Click to enlarge.
This looks like amazing night photography, but in fact it’s the same black & white photo painted to look like a night shot. They added the moon & clouds and painted the windows in the buildings to look like lamplight shining out. Click to enlarge.

Today’s Coffee with a Councilor (3PM at Cafe 13map) will be a triple treat: not only will we hear from returning Councilor Casey Brown and retiring Councilor Saoirse Charis-Graves, we’ll also meet incoming Councilor JJ Trout.
