City Business
7:30-9AM Citizen Budget Advisory Committee Meeting @ City Hall
CBAC will do their initial review of the Capital Improvement Program for next year and the 9 years following. I summarized this for last night’s City Council meeting, but today’s meeting packet contains considerably more detailed information. If you’re interested in the City’s capital plans, review today’s meeting packet.
6:30PM Planning Commission @ City Hall
Planning Commission and City Council recently approved a new zoning code, which allows for new building types. One of the objectives of the new code was to give the Planning Department more power to approve designs without having to consult the Planning Commission. We are currently testing the new code by having the Planning Commission review and ratify the projects that City Staff has approved. Tonight they will review three projects.
Project 1 – 911 9th St. – map
The owner of this house plans to build an addition on the rear of the house, as shown below.
Project 2 – 909 9th St.
Right behind 911 9th St (discussed above) was another house, which faced the alley and was demolished in 2020. The owner of that now-vacant lot plans to build a new cottage on that spot, which is designated “909 9th St.”
The proposed 909 9th Street will be a 2-story cottage with a garage at alley level.
If the style and colors look similar to 911th 10th Street, it’s probably because the same person owns both lots and Ewers Architecture is designing both projects.
Project 3 – 530 Arapahoe St. (map)
The owners of 530 Arapahoe Street plan to make additions to the side and back of their home, which was built in 1870.

Golden History Moment
The September 21, 1905 Colorado Transcript described the plans for the cornerstone-laying celebration at the future Guggenheim Hall. The Golden Masonic Lodge would be leading the ceremony, with assistance from “brother Masons” from around the state. The Governor, a congressman, and the major donor–Simon Guggenheim–would be speakers at the evet. An Army band had been secured to play music during the event and would play a public concert later in the day. The dignitaries were invited to a luncheon in Stratton Hall after the ceremony.
It is not often that work is formally started on a $100,000 building in Golden, and her people should show that they realize and appreciate what it means to all.
