Coors Brewery – poised to resume distribution – enlarge

The repeal of the 18th Amendment (Prohibition) was great news for Golden. While Coors had branched out to produce porcelain and malted milk, none of their alternative industries were as profitable–or provided as many jobs–as brewing beer.

The March 23, 1933 Colorado Transcript reported that Coors was already making beer and would be ready to deliver it as soon as the law allowed. The brewery was currently employing 50 men and expected to hire 30 more when distribution became legal.

“The real beer in large quantity is ready now in the big vats at Coors brewery and it will be only the matter of seconds to bottle and cap the beverage and also to put it in kegs, so that dealers may rapidly satisfy the demands of their thirsty customers.”

Resumption of brewing was also good news for Jefferson County farmers. Coors would be resuming large-scale purchases of barley, which reportedly grows well in this climate.
