The City’s waterpark, “The Splash,” opens today! It’s still a bit cool today, but next week’s forecast shows temperatures in the 80s.
Tonight at 6, Pete Modreski of the USGS will lead a hike to see an old copper mine at the base of Lookout Mountain. We will meet at Parking Lot F at the edge of the CSM campus-located on the south side of 19th St., Golden, just east of 6th Avenue; from there we will drive together the short distance (1 mile) up Lookout Mtn. Dr. to park where a short walk across fields and up a hillside & gully will take us to the site of the old mine adit and dump. City Council meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers. Council’s agenda usually includes several “Consent Matters,” which include items that are considered uncontroversial. Any councilor can request that an individual item be removed from that list, so it can be discussed, but if not, the entire list of consent matters is approved at once. Tonight’s consent matters include an interesting item: both Black Hawk and Georgetown have requested to use our reservoir to temporarily store water. In exchange, we’ll get to keep half of the water stored. (Yea! for our giant reservoir!)
The meeting will end with an executive session in which the councilors will review candidates for the City Manager’s job. They plan to select five finalists, who will be invited to visit the city and meet with Council. The meeting will be broadcast live on cable Channel 8, and streamed live through the city website.
