CITY MEETINGS

7:30AM Citizens Budget Advisory Committee Meeting @ City Hall
Most of the packet is missing for this meeting, but the agenda shows that the committee will hear “updates” concerning the fire and police departments and the “City.” For more information, watch the meeting.

6:30PM Planning Commission Meeting @ City Hall
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on “initial zoning” for the proposed annexation on the north end of town. This is the same area that appeared on City Council’s agenda last night. They held a public hearing to determine whether the area is eligible for annexation. (They concluded that it was eligible.) The meeting packet includes this description of the owners’ plans:

The Applicant intends to develop the Property for light industrial uses, with some commercial uses such as retail, office and restaurant uses. This use plan will complement the existing Canyon View Business Park located to the south of the Property. In addition, the Property will incorporate a trailhead that will provide access to a number of trails that connect to JeffCo Open Space, as well as City paved sidewalks that connect to Downtown Golden. A plaza is also planned for the Property that will offer community gathering opportunities, as well as retail and restaurant options. The Applicant intends to work with CDOT by proposing a signalized intersection across State Highway 93 that will provide safe access to the North Table Mountain open space located directly across the street.

After the business meeting, Commission will hold a study session to review an initial draft of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.

GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT

9 panels showing demolition and reconstruction in the Astor House
Scenes from the Astor House – enlarge

The work in the Astor House is proceeding apace. After a century and a half of continuous use, the building has accumulated a lot of surprises. The construction crew has unearthed pottery sherds, old bottles, snarls of ancient electrical wires, scorch marks from old fires, and inscrutable notes written on boards.

Mystery woman discovered behind the wall in the third floor attic of the Astor House – enlarge

In removing the walls in the third floor attic, the crew was startled to find a woman staring out at them. Who was she? Was it a wedding photo, a pin-up girl, an art print?

We’ll probably never know who she was, but they plan to unfasten her before they put up new wall board, so she won’t be trapped for another 150 years.
