Golden History Moment
Golden’s Methodist congregation was formed as early as 1859, when it was served by itinerant preachers. They had their first regularly assigned minister in 1862 and built their first church building at the northwest corner of 14th and Washington in 1869.
That first building was replaced by a larger one–on the same corner–in 1902. The larger structure served the congregation for the next 60 years. In 1962, the congregation purchased a larger piece of property and built a much larger church about three blocks away from the old one.
The Holland House Hotel bought the old church and demolished it to build a parking lot. The Table Mountain Inn acquired the defunct Holland House in the mid-1990s and built an addition that incorporated the former church site.
The “new” (1962) First United Methodist Church of Golden occupies a full block, between 15th and 16th/Ford and Jackson Streets.
