I seldom suggest an event that takes place outside of Golden, but here’s one you might want to consider.

The Denver area used to have a wide-spread electric trolley system, which last operated in 1951.  The most complete remaining car has been beautifully restored by the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club and is kept at the Denver Federal Center.  It is only open to the public one day a year, at their annual open house.  That day is today!  From 10-2, you can see the interurban that used to serve Golden.  They will be offering free rides to the public (though donations are most welcome).  Learn more about the open house on the City of Lakewood’s website.  (As a train lover, I certainly intend to be there.)

Speaking of trains, the Colorado Railroad Museum is having a Golden Craft Beer Train this afternoon from 12-4.  You can sample beer from Golden-area craft breweries, grab a bite to eat from a local food truck and enjoy live bluegrass music as you explore the museum’s 15-acre railyard. You can also ride behind their historic steam locomotive in vintage passenger cars.  Learn more at the Railroad Museum’s website.

The Golden Farmers Market runs this morning from 8-1.

Dinosaur Ridge is having one of their Dinosaur Discovery Days today between 10 and 2.  Participate in lots of free hands-on activities and learn about reptiles and birds as well as dinosaurs!  Learn more on the Dinosaur Ridge website.
