GOLDEN HISTORY MOMENT

The August 19, 1980 Golden Transcript reported on a 1-driver/2-building/3-car accident on Washington Avenue. A 61-year old Golden man drove his Jeep–twice–into the Holland House restaurant. He then backed up, ramming two cars parked in front of Steve’s Corner Western Wear.

A woman inside the restaurant was pushed out of her booth. She was briefly hospitalized and was left “sore and stiff.” The restaurant was left with a hole in the wall. Steve’s corner was left with a broken glass door, caused by one of the parked cars being pushed over the curb and across the sidewalk.

The driver of the Jeep was arrested and jailed for drunken driving.

Thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts, and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
