Candlelight Nights
Golden residents are invited to share their Golden light by placing candles in their windows and displaying all season long in festive citywide solidarity.
Just a reminder that the Golden Visitors Center is handing out free commemorative (battery-operated) candles so we can all put a candle in our windows every night.
The Visitors Center is closed to the public, put it’s staffed Monday-Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9-3. Just ring the doorbell at the north door (the parking lot side) to get your candle. The Visitors Center is also the place to buy the Taste of Golden recipe book and this year’s Leadership Golden ornament. They’re also the keepers of the Golden Gift Card Hub, so you can buy a gift card lots of different Golden businesses.
Golden History Moment
The December 14, 1976 Golden Transcript featured an article entitled A Lot of Bull. The Holland House (predecessor to the Table Mountain Inn) was installing a “new addition to Golden’s skyline…a replica of a prize winning Charloias bull.” The restaurant wanted to advertise their tender steaks.
It definitely attracted attention. Two weeks later, the Transcript featured another article: Bull Shot. Someone shot the bull with “an extremely sharp, braided edge…. Damage was estimated at $5.” Hunting the bull apparently became a popular pastime. The February 8, 1977 Transcript reported that the bull had taken six arrows, and the April 25, 1977 Transcript said it had been shot again. I’m not sure how long this rampage went on–the online collection of Transcripts only goes through June of 1977.
Many thanks to the Golden History Museum for providing the online cache of historic Transcripts and to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
