The City is making huge strides towards improving the transparency of government workings. Until now, only the City Council, Historic Preservation Board, and Planning Commission meetings have been available online for public viewing/listening. They are now moving to put more meetings online. They’re still working out the details. Right now, the agendas appear on one page, and the recordings appear on another. Some meetings are broadcast live, and some are available only after the fact, as recordings. This is a an important, exciting step for those who like to know what’s happening in City government.
The City has openings on several boards right now, and applications are due by 5PM this Friday, March 12th. If you want to apply for a board, you should definitely listen to some of the past meetings. These are the boards with upcoming openings: Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Downtown Development Authority Board, Public Art Commission, Fire Pension Board, Historic Preservation Board and the Economic Development Commission. Monday – Golden Urban Renewal Authority – Council Chambers at 6:30.
GURA will meet with Trenna Daniells, the artist that they have hired to paint a mural on the new Natural Grocers building. The will consider a proposal to rebuild and enclose a stairway in the Clear Creek Parking Structure. City staff will update the board as to the status of the 13th & Jackson lot. A closing is currently scheduled for March 12th. The board will review guidelines for using urban renewal revenues outside of an urban renewal area. Staff will update them on the status of the 8th Street urban renewal area. They will review a site plan for a proposed orthodontist office next to the Natural Grocer store. Tuesday – Economic Development Commission – Council Chambers at 6:30.
The Golden Schools Foundation will discuss a proposal for academic intervention for Golden area schools. They will discuss their 2015 workplan. City Staff will report on new business developments in town, including a 110,000 sq ft building in Corporate Center, the new mixed use building downtown, at 13th and Jackson, and a new 30,000 sq ftt office building at West 10th Ave. and Johnson Road. Thursday – City Council – Council Chambers at 6:30.
They will discuss a possible change to city fire code regarding sprinkler systems. Current code requires sprinkler systems for single household dwellings, but some parts of the city are served by water providers that cannot support such systems. In these cases, the requirement would be waived. The Golden Library manager, Carroll Mannino, will discuss the remodel that the library is about to undergo. Council will vote on whether to donate our old water rescue truck to a regional organization that assist many agencies in the region during major crises. A study session will follow the business meeting. The Parks & Rec board will report to Council on the 2015 work plan and priorities. The City Manager will describe proposed changes to the city grants process. He will then request Council’s support for an emergency moratorium on new special events in the City. Finally, he will update Council on the funding request from Golden Community Commons, the new organization that has purchased the Armory Building. See the meeting packet at the top of this page.
