The board will approve the minutes from the April 6th meeting and listen to public comment.

Tonight's topics include the following:

  • Communications
Adding explanatory signage to public art pieces
Telling the public about the two new art pieces that the state is giving the city in celebration of the U.S. 250 and State of Colorado 150 anniversaries.
  • 250/150 Artwork
One of the new pieces from the state will go on the north side of the history museum. The other is a mural that will go on the south side of the water treatment plant.
  • Recognition of ACC Grants
I'm not sure what this item entails, but the commission accepted grant applications from several local cultural organizations last fall. The awardees were announced in January. Perhaps this will be a status report on the grants.
  • Art for the new City Hall
The two chosen artists are refining their designs and will be doing so through the summer.
  • Art in Public Places Handbook
Staff is working with a consultant to update the handbook. Staff has reviewed it and the Art in Public Places subcommittee will review it next. After that, it will go to the full Arts & Culture Commission for review.

Collection

  • Recent acquisitions have been added to the list and staff is working with a consultant to determine which pieces will undergo conservation this year.
Return of the Cutthroat by Pat Madison - Photo by Barb Warden
  • Return of the Cutthroat (the big fish) will be reinstalled behind the Golden Hotel.
A Cyclist for All Seasons - Photos by Bud Rockhill
  • The City owns several miniatures of Strength (the bicyclist statue near Beverly Heights). The plan was to sell them, but the city has not found buyers, so they contacted the sculptor, Jeff Rudolph. He has offered to buy them for $250/each. "Staff determined this was the best way to move forward with the objects. Proceeds from the sale will be deposited into the Public Art account to be used for future acquisitions or collections care."

The History Museum

  • The History Museum hosted an Indigenous Connections conference last week, with 150 participants, include representatives from 9 tribes.
  • They are hiring and training summer camp councilors
  • They are meeting with Vietnam Veterans, who are advising them about an upcoming exhibit.

Grants Subcommittee

The grants subcommittee will discuss the application process they used last fall and determine whether they want to make any adjustments.

New Business

  • Commissioner Len Mattheo will report on the inaugural Comfort and Comedy Fest.
  • Commissioner Tammy Ahmed will describe Littleton's recent Arts & Culture Strategic Plan Rollout Event
