6PM Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting @ City Hall

After the agenda and minutes are approved, the board will listen to public comment. Tonight's topics include:

Widening the Trail on the South Side of Clear Creek

The Clear Creek Trail grows more popular (and more heavily trafficked) every year. For the past few years, the City has been looking for ways to re-route the faster-moving bike traffic away from pedestrians in the downtown area (approximately Hwy 58 to Ford Street).

Two years ago, they were considering a "bike bypass" paralleling the Church Ditch (approximately 7th Street). Instead, Staff has decided to widen the sidewalk on the south side of the Creek...kind of the opposite of a road diet.

Public Feedback
This is causing dismay to some of the residents of the senior housing apartments and Millstone Condominiums. They are not anxious to have more, higher-speed traffic in front of their residences. They are also concerned about plans to remove existing greenery along the Creek, worried that it will increase flood danger. Several residents sent public comment during the week of 5/4/26. They were concerned that the plans were suddenly being presented as 90% complete (which generally means that staff will not consider other alternatives). More comments appear on pp. 90-92 of tonight's meeting packet.

Summer Creek and Drought Plan Updates

The City declared a state of drought with attendant water restrictions as of May 1st. Learn more on the City's Water Conservation page. Staff will explain now this will impact City Parks.

They will also describe this year's strategies for controlling crowds along the Creek.

Lions Park Playground Project

The City plans to replace the playground equipment in Lions Park. They held "pop-up" opportunities for public input on 4/27, 5/2, 5/5, and 5/17. Staff will give a status report on the project.
