7-9PM Environmental Ethics – Why Green isn’t Black or White @ Jefferson Unitarian (map)
To many environmental activists and technocratically minded people any course of action that supports keeping this planet habitable instinctively (or reflexively) gets an instant green light. But on closer look quite a few conflicting interests come into focus with issues such as geo-engineering or artificial meat or lithium mining on indigenous people’s land.

Here to help avoid muddy thinking is philosophy professor Benjamin Hale, who teaches at CU Boulder in Philosophy and in Environmental Studies on ethical questions associated with environmental remediation, public health, moral status, and the tools of public policy. As usual we’ll have a free reception with food and drinks afterwards, so please plan on staying for more conversations with fellow participants and the presenter.

Golden History Moment

“Motels” were developed along with the rise of automobiles. The word is a contraction of “motor” and “hotel.” They differ from hotels in that they are designed so you can park right in front of your own room. They became particularly popular after World War II, as automobile ownership grew and post-war affluence allowed for increasing travel.

The Golden Motel was located at the intersection of 24th and Ford Streets. The first reference I find to this business is in the Colorado Transcript, fall of 1947. The building still remains, but it no longer serves as a motel. I believe it closed in about 2008. At any rate, that was the year I took this picture:
