Tomorrow night’s Golden Beer Talk will feature Melanie Fischer of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, discussing An Overview of the Upper Colorado Endangered Fish Recovery Program.
A unique partnership has come together to recover endangered fish species in the Upper Colorado River Basin while water development proceeds in accordance with federal and state laws and interstate compacts. This major undertaking—involving local, state and federal agencies, water and power interests, and environmental groups—focuses on restoring and managing stream flows and habitat, boosting wild populations with hatchery-raised endangered fish, and reducing negative interactions with certain non-native fish species.
Demonstrating many successes with four crucial species—humpback chub, bonytail, Colorado pineminnow and razorback sucker—this program has become a national model for its cooperative efforts to protect endangered species.
As always, the talk takes place at Windy Saddle Cafe (right under the Welcome arch). Official open is 6:00 p.m., and those eager to stake a table are welcome earlier, as the cafe is open beforehand. As always, no cover charge.
Food and beer will be available at 6:00 p.m., with our speaker starting around 6:40 p.m. We’ll take a brief intermission at 7:00 p.m., with Q & A starting at 7:15 p.m. and wrapping up around 7:45 p.m., so that the cafe can close by 8:00 p.m. This month’s featured brewery is Cannonball Creek.
