Geology and Mining Lecture Series

The School of Mines Geology Museum is starting a monthly informal lecture series on the first Thursday evening of each month. Topics for this series will run the gamut across geology, mineralogy, mineral collecting, mining, and mining history. All talks will be held in the conference room (201) directly across from the Geology Museum at 1310 Maple Street, Golden, CO 80401.

The first lecture will be held this Thursday, February 5th.  Ed Raines, the Collections Manager for the Museum will discuss “Creede: A Caldera Full of Silver.”  Ed is also President of the Mining History Association, author of “Historic Photos of Colorado Mining”, and was the recent on-camera subject matter expert for a C-SPAN presentation on Boulder County’s silver mining history. Socializing and munchies commence at 6:30 PM, and the talk will start at 7:00 PM

The Historic Preservation Board meets tonight at 6:30 in City Council Chambers.  They will discuss the possible historic district on Courthouse Hill (the area around Foothills Art Center), as well as their goals for the year.  The agenda appears on the City website, and the meeting will be broadcast (audio only) live through that same web page.
