The Public Art Commission will meet tomorrow morning at 9 in City Council Chambers. They will consider proposals for a new art piece to be installed in the roundabout by King Soopers. They will also discuss a family of bronze elk to be installed in the new roundabout at the entrance to the Heritage Dells neighborhood. Since the neighborhood requested the piece, chose the subject, and secured its own funding (from the Golden Civic Foundation), the Art Commission will discuss whether this grouping should be considered part of the public art collection. Finally, the Commission will discuss “de-accessioning” (getting rid of) several pieces along the Creek, including the deer by the Visitors Center, the kids sledding by the Library, the Victorian girl near the pedestrian bridge, the group of bears by the Clear Creek History Park, and the rodeo kids by the Golden Hotel. Details are available on the City’s Agenda page.
Friday’s forecast predicts clear weather with a high in the 50s, so we should have great weather for the Candlelight Walk. In addition to the usual activities, we’re going to have FIREWORKS after this year’s walk! Remember the windy conditions on the 4th of July, that prevented us from shooting off the fireworks? We’re going to have them this Friday instead!
Colorado Gives Day will take place next Tuesday, December 8th. This is a day when people are encouraged to make a financial contribution to their favorite non-profit. In order to encourage that, the Community First Foundation subsidizes every dollar donated with an extra contribution. They have a $1 million fund, and they distribute it proportionally to the organizations that participate in Colorado gives.
Since this is Golden, and like to party, we celebrate Colorado Gives Day with a party at the Table Mountain Inn. Everyone is welcome, and a $5 donation at the door is suggested. Lots of Golden’s cultural organizations, schools, and other non-profits plan to be there, and you’ll have the opportunity to donate to them or just talk, and learn more about them.
The Golden Civic Foundation is responsible for this shindig, so check their website to learn more about it and see who plans to participate. For now, just make sure December 8th is on your calendar for COLORADO GIVES DAY!
