6PM Golden Beer Talks – Claire Zilber, MD, “Man Up! The Shame-Based Roots of Misogyny” at the Buffalo Rose
Rather than blaming men for misogyny, which aggravates the underlying dynamic of shaming men for being who they are, this presentation focuses on increasing our empathy for boys and men. If we deepen our understanding of how our society got to its current state of misogyny and conflict between the sexes, we will be closer to crafting solutions. Tonight’s featured brewery is Golden’s own Mountain Toad Brewing Company! Learn more….
What Was Happening in Golden – 70 Years Ago
The February 16, 1950 Colorado Transcript tells us that a rabies epidemic was sweeping through the metro area, and that Golden dogs were under quarantine. Golden police swept the city, looking for unlicensed dogs and brought them to the pound, If the dogs were not claimed within 72 hours, they were destroyed. Owners of unvaccinated, untagged dogs were subject to a $1000 fine, one year in jail, or both. In other news, the Golden Lions Club was planning to present a minstrel show in Guggenheim hall as a fund-raiser to help fight polio. Finally, two junior high boys were robbed at knifepoint at the intersection of Ford and 19th Streets. The assailants were “two older boys.” The robbers got away with five cents.
Thanks to the Golden History Museum for digitizing the old Transcripts, and thanks to the Golden Transcript for documenting our history since 1866!
