2-3PM Artist Talk with Tom Van Der Sloot @ Foothills Art Center - Astor House

Discover the captivating journey of Tom, a talented artist originally from Alberta, Canada, now living and working in Denver. With a background in industrial design from Virginia Tech, Tom’s unique style features sharp line work, a skill honed through years of hand-rendering products. His artwork draws inspiration from the intriguing space between wakefulness and dreams, offering a visual narrative of his subconscious mind and life experiences.

Using acrylic paint for its opacity and resilience, Tom’s pieces burst with color, using foreground and background contrast to create a mesmerizing effect. Since embarking on his artistic journey in 2019, he has continually sought to refine his craft, often taking art classes at local art centers.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Tom share his insights on art, creativity, and the stories behind his work. Join us for an engaging conversation that will inspire and ignite your own artistic journey! Free. More information

Golden History: Early Concept for TMI

Early concept for the Table Mountain Inn - Golden Transcript - October 18, 1990

The October 18, 1990 Golden Transcript captures an interesting moment in time. The Holland House Hotel had been closed for several years. New owners had at last come forth. Bart Bortles, Frank Day, and Arthur Wong had agreed to buy the building from the Golden Civic Foundation. Bortles estimated the total cost of the project at $1.7 million.

They had already decided that the hotel would be rechristened as the "Table Mountain Inn. The drawing that appeared in the Transcript shows that the design didn't start out as southwestern.
